Dr. Jawaid Abdullah - Writer, Philosopher of Natural Democracy, Founder of World Natural Democracy

Dr. Jawaid Abdullah is Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Philosophy at MMMV Degree College, Shahpur, Goalpara, Bihar. Gradually acknowledged as the Founder-Philosopher of Natural Democracy and affectionately known as ‘Prakritipurush’ (Man of Nature), he is also a seminal figure in the founding of World Natural Democracy (WND).

His life’s work centers on bridging classical philosophical thought with contemporary global challenges, particularly in ethics, environmental justice, and planetary democracy. His aim is to establish Natural Democracy on Earth, and he is working on two university projects: Freedom University and the proposed World Natural Democracy University (2023).

Dr. Abdullah holds both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Banaras Hindu University, where he was trained in rigorous philosophical reasoning and critical inquiry. His research integrates classical thinkers like Socrates, Plato, and Kant with modern theorists such as Johan Galtung, focusing on conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and the ethical dimensions of governance. He is deeply inspired by diverse pedagogical traditions, including the Sinik School, which emphasize holistic learning, moral development, and the cultivation of civic responsibility.

He is the Founder and Chairman of World Natural Democracy (WND), a global non-profit movement dedicated to nature, democracy, and universal citizenship, advocating a model of global governance rooted in the laws of nature and human dignity. WND promotes a vision where democracy is not a mere political process but a way of life aligned with environmental sustainability, planetary peace, and social justice. Dr. Abdullah also directs the Freedom Studies Research Centre (FSRC), which seeks to cultivate a profound understanding of freedom—not merely as political or legal rights, but as an essential human condition. FSRC’s mission includes the proposed Freedom University (2023) and efforts to integrate Freedom Studies into global academic curricula.

Dr. Abdullah’s engagement is not limited to theory. He has led 60+ nationwide grassroots campaigns, including long marches, river padyatras, cycling yatras, and hunger strikes—ten major and three minor—focused on Earth rights, environmental preservation, and nonviolent advocacy. He has pioneered the World Citizen School in Benipur (2024) to nurture global ethical awareness from the grassroots. His activism blends rigorous moral philosophy with lived experience, embodying the principle that thought without action is incomplete.

As an academic, he has delivered lectures including as a resource person at BHU orientation programs, fostering dialogue between philosophical inquiry and practical ethics. His writing flows seamlessly between literature, poetry, and philosophical treatises, often exploring the intersections of human dignity, social justice, and ecological ethics. His books, including World Natural Democracy (2018) and Galtung ke Gandhi (2023), exemplify this integration, highlighting the continuity between Gandhian thought and modern peace studies.

Dr. Abdullah’s intellectual approach is holistic and experiential. He views freedom not as an abstract concept but as a daily practice requiring courage, moral clarity, and self-discipline. He personally observes five daily prayers (Namaz) and Roza, demonstrating a life in which spiritual discipline complements social engagement and intellectual rigor. His philosophy emphasizes the inseparability of thought and action, echoing the classical wisdom of Socrates and the ethical imperatives of Kant, while applying them to contemporary global crises.

Throughout his career, he has engaged with eminent thinkers and practitioners, including Tushar Gandhi, Ila Gandhi, Rajendra Singh, Medha Patkar, Ram Puniyani, and Rajmohan Gandhi, bridging the worlds of scholarship, activism, and grassroots mobilization. His work has received national and international recognition, including acknowledgment from Harvard University, Johan Galtung of Transcend International, and best wishes from the Office of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres for the proposed Global Democracy World Congress (now world congress of natural democracy) 2026.

Dr. Abdullah’s methodology combines philosophical analysis, practical activism, and ethical leadership. He recognizes that the most significant power lies not in authority or wealth but within human conscience—the ability to discern truth, resist fear, and act with justice and compassion. His campaigns often blend symbolic action with rigorous moral reasoning, from rolling-crawling protests to massive marches, creating spaces where ordinary citizens confront social and ecological injustices.

In academia, he has authored four books, five peer-reviewed international papers, and over 20 newspaper columns, besides delivering 15 sessions in the BodhMala Lecture Series featuring national and international scholars. He has also participated in nine national and one international conference (IPPC 2021), submitted policy resolutions to the President of India, and engaged with prominent policy makers and educational leaders. His student mentorship extends to over 6,000 students, answering more than 12,000 questions on philosophy, ethics, and human values.

At the heart of his work is the belief that education must cultivate character, not merely knowledge. He challenges conventional educational norms that prioritize rote learning or convenience, emphasizing instead critical thinking, moral courage, and global citizenship. His integration of Galtung’s peace studies, philosophical diagnoses of societal injustice, and practical activism demonstrates a rare synthesis of theory and practice.

Spiritually disciplined, morally uncompromising, and intellectually expansive, Dr. Abdullah remains committed to truth, freedom, and human dignity. He combines Gandhian nonviolence, global ethical thought, and classical philosophical reasoning to inspire individuals and communities. His life and work serve as a model for integrating intellectual inquiry, ethical responsibility, and practical activism, embodying the very principles he teaches and practices.

In sum, Dr. Jawaid Abdullah is more than an academic or activist. He is a living bridge between philosophy and life, theory and practice, contemplation and action. Whether writing, lecturing, or leading grassroots initiatives, he exemplifies a commitment to planetary democracy, environmental stewardship, and universal human dignity, while nurturing the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and global citizens. His journey demonstrates that freedom, justice, and ethical courage are not abstract ideals but lived realities achievable through conscious reflection, moral discipline, and fearless action.
